ALEXANDRA ROSE DAY collections
Frank Prisco - (01483 720239) - email: frankandmags[AT]aol.com
Alexandra Rose Day is unusual in that it is not a specific charity but a national fund raising organisation for helping charities ranging from those for old people, children, disabled and other disadvantaged groups. The first Rose Day took place on 26th June 1912 and had grown from an idea brought back from Denmark by Queen Alexandra. She had visited an old priest who had been successfully funding his charity work with disadvantaged children by selling roses from his garden (his house and garden being his only real possessions).
Today, Alexandra Rose Day, organised and run by the St Vincent de Paul Society, continues to support locally disadvantaged people, and new collectors and helpers are always welcome.

Hospice care provides to the highest possible standards a patient's medical, nursing, social and spiritual care, together with support for the patient's family, both during the illness and into bereavement. This care helps to relieve the suffering by alleviating the symptoms, particularly the pain.
The Hospice depends entirely on voluntary contributions. If you can help or would like further details please contact the above number.

The Runnymede Hospital, Chertsey - (01932 877800)
Anyone admitted to hospital needs to make sure that hospital staff record their religion and note their explicit request that the chaplaincy team and the Roman Catholic chaplain be informed. Anyone responsible for children or a person who is admitted unconscious, should do the same. Because of the reducing number of priests, it is not always possible for the Sacrament of the Sick to be administered in hospital. The Bishop advises that parishioners who can, should ask for the Sacrament to be celebrated by their own priest before going to hospital.
